City Pages, a local Minnesota news site, covered the events as it transpired. Readers expressed outrage on the comment section of the site, begging Paige to come to her senses. They also didn't have any kind words for Sharkey either, scolding him for preying on a girl who's nearly 30-years younger than him. Never a good idea to upset the voters of the state you hope to govern . Despite the public disapproval, Paige stubbornly remained steadfast, telling the concerned readers to "Scew off."
Paige alleged that she was walking out on an abusive relationship with her mother. An odd charge, seeing that she wasn't living with her. Her goal was to stay with her "vampire savior" until he could help her get emancipated from her mother. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children listed Paige as an endangered runaway. Sharkey also made a series of YouTube videos, making unsubstantiated claims about Paige's mother.
The Faribault Police Department urged Paige to speak with them, to fully understand her side of the situation. The 16-year old dismissed the offer. One detective tried calling Paige's cellphone, but it was turned off due to not wanting to be reached or located. Without proof of sexual contact, the Faribault P.D.'s hands were tied, making the situation more frustrating for them, Paige's family, friends, and spectators aware of the situation.
Jillian Moen, Paige's mother, was interviewed by the Republican Eagle of Minnesota. Jillian believed that her daughter was being brainwashed by Sharkey. A claim eerily similar to Teresa Lucchetti, the mother of the 18-year old who ran away with Sharkey to Tennessee to start a vampire commune.
Steve Wilkos, the popular bald security guy from the Jerry Springer Show, invited Jonathon, Paige, Jillian, and even myself to come on his show and discuss the situation. After finding out that Sharkey wouldn't be seen in a positive light, Sharkey declined the offer. An enraged Jonathon Sharkey later challenged Wilkos to a wrestling match. Jillian also declined going on the show, no longer wanting to expose her daughter to Sharkey's sick limelight.
After a week and a half of drama, things finally came to a head. The police were able to convince Sharkey and Paige to come down to the station and meet with them. When they arrived, Sharkey was met with police force and Paige was removed from his custody. Although the "vampire sexual predator" didn't face police charges, he quickly bought himself a Greyhound bus ticket, and bolted out of Minnesota.
Jillian filed a protective order against Sharkey, aimed to keep him away from her and her daughter. Paige returned to the custody of her mother and stayed with her after that event. Jillian also filed for a referral with a local children health center for a facility to help her daughter.
For Jillian, the nightmare was finally over.
As of this date, it's been discovered that Paige still keeps in contact with Jonathon Sharkey. She sees no wrongdoing in his pursuit of underage girls, referencing how old men would marry girls, as young as 13, back in the day. It comes to show how strong his manipulative influence has been on her over the years. It's quite sad and quite tragic. Perhaps the nightmare isn't over after all.

ReplyDeleteThis was around the time we that any talk of Jonathon Sharkey was banned. Some wanted to distance themselves away from him as much as possible due to him giving the vamp community a bad name. He made videos, calling us impostors. Funny how we only became impostors after we wanted nothing to do with him.
